Alphabet, Google’s parent company, has a complex share structure with three classes:<\/p>\n
\nClass A <\/strong>\n\nGOOGL<\/strong><\/li>\n\u00a0These are common shares with one vote per share and are publicly traded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n Class B <\/strong>\n\nGOOG<\/strong><\/li>\nThese are common shares and come with 10 votes per share. They are not publicly traded and are restricted to insiders, like founders and executives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n Class C<\/strong>\n\n\u00a0These have no voting rights but are common shares.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\nPublic data on ownership of Class B shares is limited, as of December 2021, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Google’s founders, held a significant portion (around 85.9%) which granted them majority voting control. For publicly traded Class A shares, institutional investors like hedge funds, pension funds, and asset management companies are major holders, owning around 22% as of November 2022.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
